i met this hijda in the train
pushpak expess heading towards
the gangetic plain
she who was born
an incomplete man
a tarnished testicular testimony
manacled in silken chain
she became incomplete
woman fallopian tubes
uterus in her imagination
all slain
menstrualmachinations
nogoddamnedstain
burning
like a wick at both ends
no complain
timeless tears
entrapped in a grain
love comes
love goes
love she cannot obtain
orgiastic oscillations
on a pendulum
she cannot sustain
oh bhauchara mata
your blessings
showered
bring me home again
a hijda a human hurricane
what i was not born with
how can i retain
the agony of a
broken windowpane
shattered sorrow
trembling so humane
I start a new series of Hijdas , pictures shot on the train while going to Lucknow to participate in Ashura, I had not seen these pictures at all.I let them age , pickled , curried on my CD’s.
Moharam pictures tire me out, the blood flow, the pathos , so I took this deviaton.
All day from 2 pm till 7 pm, I had my Belgian photographer friend Marc de Clerq , he has reached Mumbai from Chennai, he dropped in at my shop, than I bought him home for lunch, he is connected to Planet Gender, he has done his Masters in Photography..he shoots transgender all over the world..he shoots 6/6 , that can be blown to about a meter.
After lunch I took him to St Peters Church Bandra, I shot him against the statue of Jesus Christ, from there I took him to Mount Marys Church, he shot pictures with his digital Leica and a twin reflex Rolleiflex that he bought in Chennai, with a 2.8 Planar lens .
We came back to the shop, discussed photography , he will be staying at Laxmis house , shooting Hijdas in their natural surroundings.. I also made him dress like me and shot a few pictures with a saffron turban..
This is the power of the Internet to connect you to someone you never knew ,I called up Subash my camera friend to help Marc get back his stolen Haselblad equipment in case the thief plans to sell the stuff here in Mumbai…
